![]() ![]() Adjacent to the Octagon Lodge, the Mountain Club offers a variety of rooms that can sleep anywhere from two to 10 guests and boasts a full-service spa and wellness center, along with two on-site dining options. ![]() Should you like to treat yourself to some nice ski in - ski out lodging right there at the resort (so as not to miss a moment on the slopes), book a stay at the Mountain Club on Loon, which is not only close to everything but has all the amenities as well. ![]() The train, an antique steam locomotive that originally burned coal but was retrofitted to burn wood when it arrived at Loon in the 1970s, is a throwback to the narrow-gauge White Mountain logging trains of more than a century ago. Henry Railroad, which shuttles skiers along the base of the mountain all day long between the Octagon Lodge and the Governor Adams Lodge. For a different way to travel between the slopes, skip the shuttle bus and take a ride on the J.E. ![]() While at the Loon Mountain Adventure Center there’s cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, indoor rock climbing and even a zipline that takes riders more than 700 feet across the Pemigewasset River and then back across to the Adventure Center. The resort’s Ski and Snowboard School offers guests of all ages a variety of learning opportunities. If freestyle snowboarding is your thing, Loon Mountain is home to six terrain parks featuring the newly-opened ThirtyTwo Training Facility dedicated to down rails progression as well as the only Superpipe in New Hampshire, which runs 425 feet long with 18-foot walls. The mountain has 61 trails and 11 lifts, including New Hampshire’s longest gondola ride, which takes skiers to the 2,733-foot summit of Loon Peak. If the plan is to go to the mountains to ski, then Loon Mountain is the place to do it. LOON MOUNTAIN RESORT (60 Loon Mountain Road, Lincoln ) Why not escape to someplace where you can have some fun in those frigid temperatures? A place where being out in the cold is just what you need to have a good time! In the towns of Woodstock and Lincoln, nestled in the western White Mountains of New Hampshire, you’ll not only find plenty of snowsports to enjoy but also one of the longest candy counters in the country, plus several great places to stay - one even boasts its own brewery located in a former railroad station, a seasonal ice castle, and the notoriety of being the site of the first reported UFO abduction in America. If interested, the marker is located just past the Indian Head Resort, near the parking lot exit.It is generally going to be cold in New England during February, no matter where you go. Probably not worth going out of your way to find it, but worth a look if already driving on route 3 in Lincoln. Given that the marker is located just outside of the parking lot of the Indian Head Resort, on the shoulder of route 3, it is easy to find. Since there is nothing here but a marker highlighting what was purported by the Hills to have happened to them, there isn't anything here to see here but the marker itself. For those of a certain age (over the age of 60), it is significant because it is the very first of such reported incidents, and for those having grown up in the New England area, this incident is well-known and a definite curiosity. A couple of books have been written about Betty and Barney Hill's UFO sighting and their reported abductions (still unproven). The cabins are located on route 3, and very close to an area that is historically significant in what may have occurred there back in September of 1961.
